Being deaf in a hearing world is not easy, but it’s not impossible either. I started this podcast originally for a class assignment, but it soon became something more for me. It allowed me to rediscover something that was a part of me for a long time.
My deafness for me was always something I viewed as a hindrance, but it was a hindrance that I tried my best to keep hidden. Recently, I realized that by trying to pretend that my deafness was ‘not there’, I made it into an obstacle that I couldn’t avoid anymore.
That being said, this podcast is me talking about my deafness – the experiences that come with it, the limitations I’ve faced, how I’ve let it stop me from doing things that I wanted and how it made me scared. This podcast is me accepting that it is a part of who I am and that I should not be ashamed.
